Who this is for

When an off-the-shelf app won’t do

No app in the store does quite what you need

You’ve searched the App Store, trialled three, and each one gets you 80% there. A custom app closes the gap instead of forcing your workflow around theirs.

You’re paying five subscriptions that half-fit

A stack of overlapping apps, each with its own monthly fee and its own quirks. One app built for how you actually work usually costs less and breaks less.

You want to sell your own app

You’ve spotted a gap in the App Store and want a public app - billing, listing and review included, not just the code.

It needs to touch checkout, discounts or shipping

The things themes can’t reach - custom discounts, checkout validation, delivery logic - now belong to Shopify Functions, and that’s exactly what we build.

The build

What's included

A complete app, built the way Shopify’s own guidelines say it should be - embedded, secure, and native to the admin, not a website in a frame.

  • Embed

    Embedded admin UI

A Polaris and App Bridge interface that runs inside the Shopify admin - the merchant never leaves Shopify, and it looks like it shipped with it.

  • Auth

    OAuth & session tokens

Secure install and authentication done to Shopify’s current spec - session tokens, scopes and webhooks set up properly, not the shortcuts that fail review.

  • Data

    Admin API integration

Products, orders, customers, inventory and metafields read and written through the GraphQL Admin API, with the rate limits and bulk operations handled for you.

  • Logic

    Shopify Functions

Custom discounts, checkout validation, delivery and payment customisation - the backend logic that used to need Shopify Plus scripts, built as Functions.

  • Checkout

    Checkout & admin extensions

UI extensions that add your app’s features at the right points in checkout, customer accounts and the admin itself - no theme edits required.

  • Billing

    Billing & App Store submission

For public apps: the Billing API wired up (managed pricing or usage charges), a listing prepared, and the app taken through App Store review.

How we build

Native to Shopify, not fighting it

Most app problems come from building beside Shopify instead of inside it - a standalone site squeezed into an iframe, auth held together with tape, features that break at the next platform update. We build on Shopify’s own frameworks, so the app feels native and survives the roadmap.

AI handles the repetitive scaffolding and boilerplate; twenty years of ecommerce judgement goes into the data model, the edge cases and the things App Store reviewers actually check.

  • Built on Shopify’s current stack

App Bridge, Polaris, session-token auth, the GraphQL Admin API and Functions - the tools Shopify supports, not deprecated ones that pass today and break next quarter.

  • Public or private, your call

A listed App Store app for the world, or a custom app installed on your store alone. We build either and tell you honestly which one your case needs.

  • You own the code

Standard Remix or Node, your repository, your Shopify Partner account. No proprietary lock-in and no dependency on us to keep it running.

How it runs

Scope call to installed app

  1. 1

    Scope call

What the app must do, which parts of Shopify it touches, and whether it’s public or private. Twenty minutes.

  2. 2

    Fixed quote

Scope, timeline and price in writing within 48 hours - including what App Store review will need if it’s public.

  3. 3

    Build on a dev store

The app built and running on a development store you can log into and watch take shape.

  4. 4

    Test & ship

End-to-end testing, then App Store submission for a public app or a direct install for a private one.

  5. 5

    Support

Kept working against Shopify’s API version updates, with support and changes on ad-hoc or a small monthly arrangement.

Fair questions

Before you ask

What’s the difference between a public and a custom app?

A public app is listed on the Shopify App Store and can be installed by any merchant - it needs billing and passes Shopify’s review. A custom (private) app is built for a single store and installed directly, with no listing or review. We build both; the right choice depends on whether you’re solving your own problem or selling to others, and we’ll say plainly which fits.

Will it really run inside the Shopify admin?

Yes. We build embedded apps using App Bridge and Polaris, so the app loads inside the admin and matches Shopify’s look and behaviour. The merchant never feels like they’ve left Shopify - which is both what merchants expect and what App Store review requires.

Can the app change checkout, discounts or shipping?

Yes, through Shopify Functions - custom discounts, checkout validation, delivery and payment customisation, and more. Functions are how this backend logic works on modern Shopify, and they run on every plan rather than needing Plus. If your idea needs checkout UI as well, we add checkout extensions.

Can you get it onto the App Store?

Yes. For public apps we set up the Billing API, prepare the listing, and take the app through Shopify’s review process - which checks performance, security, embedded UX and billing behaviour. Building to that standard from the start is the difference between a smooth submission and weeks of back-and-forth.

What are the ongoing costs?

A custom app needs somewhere to run - a small hosting bill, typically A$10-30/month depending on load - plus your Shopify Partner account, which is free. There are no per-seat app fees because it’s your app. Our involvement after launch is up to you: ad-hoc support or a small monthly arrangement to keep it current with Shopify’s API updates.

What do you need from me?

A clear picture of what the app should do and which parts of Shopify it works with. If you already have a Partner account or a development store, great; if not, we set them up. From there it’s a scope call and the odd decision along the way - we handle the rest.
